You Are Sent – 21 Days in the Word

Day 11 – You Are Sent

(Romans 10:8-17)

Salvation is simple

One of the obstacles to people experiencing salvation is the fact that it is very simple and easily accessible. Salvation is simple and close to us, rather than complicated, deep, and far away. All you need to do is to believe in your heart and confess with your mouth.

Jesus Christ has finished the work of salvation on the cross, but one can only experience it by trusting Him in faith. This is why it is only those who call on the name of the Lord will be saved.

Saving faith is not mere intellectual agreement, but a deep inward trust in Christ at the core of one’s being.

The process of salvation

Two components or process of salvation are the confession of Jesus lordship and the belief that God raised Him from the dead. Confession is the outward evidence of an inward faith.

Paul’s argument in today’s passage while clearly stating the way of salvation, also makes a case for our personal responsibility in seeing people come to faith in Christ. People will only call on Jesus for salvation if they believe that He can save them.

Believing in Christ is only possible through knowledge about Him, but this knowledge comes when someone proclaims the message of the gospel. To proclaim the message, someone has to be sent to do it. The urgency to proclaim the gospel comes from the conviction that salvation is only possible when one hears and believes the gospel.

Sent to tell the good news

The gospel is the good news about Jesus Christ as the crucified and risen Saviour. It is by hearing the gospel that one comes to faith in Jesus Christ. It is therefore not enough to model Christian life; we must explain the content of the gospel to people.

Explaining or proclaiming the gospel message is the responsibility of every believer. You are therefore sent to proclaim the gospel. Some people argue that they preach the gospel with their lives, so they do not need to speak to anyone about the gospel as they can see it in their lives. But the Scriptures make it clear that we are not to choose between lifestyle evangelism and gospel proclamations. It is not a case of one or the other, we must both live and proclaim the gospel.

Therefore, proclaiming the  gospel is your personal responsibility because it is an indispensable process of salvation.

“How then will they call on him in whom they have not believed? And how are they to believe in him of whom they have never heard? And how are they to hear without someone preaching? And how are they to preach unless they are sent?…
