Day 14 – The Right Approach To Crisis
(Joel 1: 13-20)
Joel prophesied of a coming judgement on Israel, which came to pass. His prophecy pointed to a time of national disaster in which everyone would be helpless because of the mighty judgement from God. In that time every human system and institution failed as a source of help. His directives to the priests of God shows us the right approach to dealing with crisis.
Our natural tendency to run away or run around looking for quick fix solutions is definitely not endorsed here. In times of crisis, we should recognise the situation and acknowledge our limitations, then look up to God for help.
Cry out to God in prayers for mercy
The prophet calls the priests who minister before God to mourn for the impending disaster. To come before God in prayers and fasting; to gather the people to a solemn meeting and cry out to God in prayers for mercy. This call to come before God indicates that our deliverance or salvation only comes from God.
When we are confronted with crisis, we are to recognise our helplessness and seek for help from God, who alone is able to deliver us. Those who cry out to God for help and depend on Him alone qualify for His mercy. Crying out to God in times of trouble is a demonstration of faith and dependence on him.
Trust in God for salvation
God has always responded when His people seek Him in times of trouble. He is a merciful and compassionate Father who feels the pain and afflictions of His children. God is eager to help us if only we reach out to him. We are not to depend on our strength in times of crisis but to look and trust in God for salvation. Our deliverance from any trouble or crisis is only guaranteed in God. He is our ever-present Help in times of trouble and those who go to Him find rest and peace regardless of the crisis or storm they are faced with.
Whatever trouble or crisis may come your way, learn to take it to God and look to Him from whom alone your help comes, and you will not be put to shame because those who look to Him are radiant and their faces are not ashamed (Psalm 34:5).
“If my people who are called by my name humble themselves, pray, seek my face, and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin and heal their land“
2 Chronicles 7:14
