Day 4 – The Divine Standard

Day 4 – The Divine Standard

(Micah 6:1-8)

Relationships thrive when both parties understand and honour each other’s expectations. In our human interactions, these expectations are sometimes tainted by selfish motives or personal gain. However, our relationship with God stands in stark contrast. God’s expectations are pure, flowing from His desire for a relationship that brings Him glory and enriches our lives. He does not leave us guessing about what He seeks from us—He makes it clear, inviting us to respond in love and sincerity.

In Micah 6:1–8, God reminds His people of His continual faithfulness – He defended them, provided for them, and showed them unmerited grace. Yet rather than seeking repayment through burnt offerings or elaborate sacrifices, God clarifies what truly matters to Him: to act justly, to love mercy, and to walk humbly with Him. These qualities bring genuine honour to God, far more than religious rituals or outward displays of devotion.

Ultimately, nothing we do or give can atone for our sins or earn our salvation. The only sacrifice sufficient is that of Jesus Christ. God calls us to accept this gift by faith and to live each day trusting in Him. Our acts of justice, kindness, and humility are not means to earn His favour but are evidence that we have received His grace and are living it out. Living by faith is not a passive resignation; it is an active response, demonstrated through a life marked by compassion, fairness, and a humble walk with God. In this way, we reflect the character of Christ and fulfil the divine standard God has set for His people.

He has told you, O mortal, what is good; and what does the Lord require of you but to do justice, and to love kindness, and to walk humbly with your God? (Micah 6:8).
