Day 5 – Discerning God’s Direction

Day 5 – Discerning God’s Direction

(Acts 16:6-10)

Every new season carries questions: Where am I going next? What should I pursue? What should I release? Acts 16:6–10 reminds us that direction for the next season is not discovered by speed or effort alone, but by sensitivity to the Spirit of God.

Paul and his companions were actively ministering, yet Scripture says they were “forbidden by the Holy Spirit to preach the word in Asia.” This is striking. A good intention was stopped by divine intervention. Sometimes God’s direction is revealed not through open doors, but through closed ones. A closed door is not rejection; it is redirection. God may be protecting you from arriving too early, too late, or in the wrong place.

As they tried to move forward, the Spirit of Jesus did not permit them. Then, in the stillness of waiting, Paul received a vision of a man from Macedonia pleading, “Come over and help us.” Clarity often comes after obedience in uncertainty. When we honour God’s restraints, He releases clearer instructions.

Notice the response: “After Paul had seen the vision, immediately we sought to go to Macedonia, concluding that God had called us.” Direction became evident when revelation met discernment and action. The next season required a shift—from Asia to Europe, from familiar ground to new territory. This single act of obedience opened the door for the gospel to spread across an entire region.

For your next season, God may be speaking through interruptions, delays, or unexpected pauses. Do not rush past them. Ask, “Lord, what are You saying?” The Spirit who restrains is the same Spirit who guides. When He speaks, move decisively. Prayer: Lord, I submit my plans to You. Where You say “no,” give me peace. Where You say “go,” give me courage. Lead me clearly into the next season You have prepared for me. Amen. Reflection: What door has God closed recently, and how might He be redirecting you?

I will instruct you and teach you the way you should go; I will counsel you with my eye upon you (Psalms 32:8).
