A vibrant, Christ-centred church based in Cheshunt, Hertfordshire, committed to helping people encounter God, grow in faith, and live transformed lives.
A church born from a desire to encounter God.
Peniel began on Friday 1st July 2022 with a prayer meeting in response to a prophetic direction to create a place where people could truly encounter God — just as Jacob did when he declared, “I have seen God face to face.” This was followed by our first Sunday service on 3rd July 2022. From the outset, Peniel’s mission has been to cultivate an environment and community where genuine encounters with God inspire personal transformation and active engagement in His purpose.
After months of prayer, prophetic confirmation, and preparation, The Peniel Centre officially launched on 2nd October 2022. Over 400 people gathered to celebrate the birth of a new church community in Cheshunt, with the Mayor of Broxbourne present to formally declare the church open. Since then, Peniel has continued to meet every Friday and Sunday.
From the beginning, Peniel was envisioned as a home for every generation — a place for those hungry for God and longing for a deeper encounter with Him. A centre for both the Word and the Spirit, committed to seeking the lost, restoring believers, discipling the saved, equipping the Church, and raising champions for Christ. Our children’s and youth ministries began just weeks after our first Sunday service, reflecting our commitment to raising the next generation in faith.
Peniel is a church for everyone — every season, every culture, every generation, and every walk of life. We are a church family passionate about God’s presence, committed to His Word, and devoted to living out His mission in the world. Our heart is to create a place where people can encounter God deeply and be discipled into the fullness of His purpose for their lives.
We believe the Bible is the Holy Scriptures, inspired by the Holy Spirit, inerrant, infallible, and the final authority for faith and life. It is the foundation of our beliefs and practices as a church.
We believe in the Holy Trinity — Father, Son, and Holy Spirit — and in salvation by grace through faith in Jesus Christ. We believe in baptism in water and in the Holy Spirit, and in the bodily resurrection of all people after death, with the reality of a literal heaven and hell.
