Give Me This Mountain – 21 Days in the Word

Day 7 – Give Me This Mountain

(Joshua 14:6-15)

Walking with God in faith

The faith of Caleb in today’s bible reading greatly challenged and encouraged me. I believe also that it speaks not only to everyone who has been given a promise by God, and waiting for the fulfilment, but also to everyone who may consider themselves too old to do exploits for God.

Caleb was one of the 12 Spies Moses sent to survey the promised land (Numbers 13). He, together with Joshua brought a good report to Moses and the whole congregation, contrary to the negative voices of the other ten Spies.

Moses promised him that the land would be his inheritance because he walked with God in faith.

Hold on to the promise regardless

Forty-five years later, Caleb reminded Joshua of the promise God had given him through Moses. Caleb held on to the promise of God for 45 years. He was convinced that God kept him alive because He was willing to fulfil His promise to him.

Time and the adversities of the 45 years did not make him forget God’s promise to him. He trusted God to fulfil the word He had spoken over him.

Caleb teaches us that the next step to experiencing what God has promised is to hold on to that promise regardless of how long it takes. If you have a word from the Lord, hold on to it because the One who promised is faithful.

Possess the promise

At the age of 85, Caleb said to Joshua “give me this mountain of which the Lord spoke on that day”(v.12). Caleb knew that it was his responsibility to possess the promise God had made to him.

In the face of many challenges at an advanced age of 85, Caleb would not be denied. He had faith in the God who promised and did not focus on the obstacles in his way.

Take steps and actions of faith

We must take steps and actions of faith in order to obtain the promise God has made to us. Do not let time, age or obstacles stand in the way of God’s promise for your life. Hebron was given to Caleb, and he drove out the giants in it and possessed it.

God watches over His word to perform it. God is able and willing to honour every word or promise He has given you. God’s name is in every promise He has made, and He will fulfil His promises for the honour of His name.

He fulfilled His promise to Caleb and will be faithful to fulfil His promise to you.

“No unbelief made him waver concerning the promise of God, but he grew strong in his faith as he gave glory to God,fully convinced that God was able to do what he had promised

Thank you Jesus. The devotion for today confirms what God spoke to me during my quiet time this morning from Genesis 28:15b, “…for I will not leave you until I have done what I have promised you.” God is too faithful to fail me. Hallelujah!
