Day 16 – God Provides for His Work

(Exodus 36:1-7)

The assignment

God is a faithful God, who is committed to His purposes. When he gives us an assignment, He makes provisions to see it fulfilled. God gave Moses the assignment of building Him a tabernacle that he may dwell with the people.

The assignment was complex and very detailed. It required special human and material resources for it to be accomplished. Moses on his own could not have done it, but God would not send Him and abandon Him.

God always provides for His work. When God gives you a vision, He will provide every resource you need to accomplish it.

Part of God’s mission

God gave the special skills required for the task to His people and calls them to be part of the work by giving themselves and their resources to it. God was giving them an opportunity to be part of what He was doing.

Any time God makes demands from us; He is giving us an opportunity to be part of what He is doing. We become part of His mission by making ourselves available to Him for His purposes. We must do it willingly, not out of necessity or by compulsion.

The gifts and grace God has given us are part of His provisions for His work. We must do well to make them available willingly for Him when they are needed for His work.

Willing obedience

The people responded with willing obedience and extravagant generosity. They brought freewill offerings every morning for the work. The people worked extra hard in order to be able to give to the work. They did not just give what they had; they worked more to be able to give.

Their willing heart resulted in overflowing provisions that they had to be restrained from giving.

Do the work of God wholeheartedly

We must be willing to give ourselves and our resources wholeheartedly to the work of God. The psalmist says that your people shall be willing volunteers in the day of your power (Psalm 110:3).

You and all that you have are God’s provisions for the work of His house. You are fulfilling your purpose when you make yourself and your resources available for God’s work.

“For in a severe test of affliction, their abundance of joy and their extreme poverty have overflowed in a wealth of generosity on their part
