Day 12 – Motivating A Younger Generation
(Joshua 15:13-19)
Joshua had given Hebron to Caleb according to God’s promise to him. After 45 years of holding on to God’s promise to him, Caleb demanded the inheritance the Lord had promised him through Moses. He took possession of his inheritance by driving out the sons of Anak, the giants.
Caleb demonstrated exemplary faith and courage which lived on beyond him. His life of faith was a challenge and an encouragement to the generation after him. A truly fulfilled life is a life that is propagated. A propagated life is a multiplied life that lives on to the next generation.
God’s desire is that we walk with Him in faith in such a way that younger people will learn to trust God and do exploits for Him on account of our walk with God.
Taking possession
By taking possession of Hebron, Caleb set an example for the younger generation. He did not just walk with God in faith, he found a way to teach the younger people after him how-to live-in faith. He challenged the younger ones to rise up and do exploits for God by taking on the enemies in their inheritance.
Caleb’s life and faith motivated his nephew Othniel to take on the enemy. Caleb became a mentor and encourager to his nephew Othniel. Caleb had a transforming influence on Othniel that lasted beyond Caleb. After Caleb had died and Israel had gone away from God, Othniel was the first to deliver Israel from the enemy and to turn the nation back to God (Judges 3:7-11). In Othniel, Caleb lived on.
Our lives, actions and words should motivate the next generation to stand up and be counted. It is our responsibility to pass on the torch like Caleb did. The exploits we did and the victories we experienced must not stop with us. The greatest legacy of our walk with God is that we ensured that it does not end with us.
This brings me to ask you this question: “who are you challenging and motivating to walk with God in faith? What impact are you leaving behind you? Motivating the younger generation is the best way to spend your life so the fight of faith will not end with you!
“You then, my child, be strong in the grace that is in Christ Jesus; and what you have heard from me through many witnesses entrust to faithful people who will be able to teach others as well“
2 Timothy 2:1-2
