(Daniel 12:1-4)

The closing chapters of the book of Daniel present a profound prophecy concerning the end times. Daniel foretells a period of unparalleled distress for all people, yet he also assures that those whose names are found written in the book of life will be delivered. This emphasises that while every human being will face death and the end of their earthly lives, there is a greater reality beyond this world. History demonstrates that Daniel’s earlier prophecies were fulfilled with remarkable accuracy, reinforcing our confidence that these final promises will also be realised at the appointed time.
Daniel’s prophecy explicitly refers to the resurrection of the dead at the end of the age. All people, regardless of how they have lived, will be raised. Yet, the outcome of this resurrection is decisively shaped by the choices individuals make in this life. Those whose names are not found in the book of life will rise to face shame and everlasting contempt. In contrast, those who belong to God—having accepted His gift of life through Jesus Christ—will rise to everlasting life. The distinction, therefore, lies in whether one has embraced Christ and lived faithfully for Him.
There is an unshakeable certainty that an end is coming, and God will judge each person according to their deeds. For those who possess the righteousness of God through faith in Christ, the reward is everlasting life. Just as previous prophecies were fulfilled, this promise of eternal reward will also come to pass. This assurance encourages us to remain steadfast in our faith, to hold firmly to our confession of Christ, and to persevere to the end. The hope of everlasting life is not only a future reward but also a present comfort, motivating us to live righteously and faithfully each day.
From now on there is reserved for me the crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous judge, will give to me on that day, and not only to me but also to all who have longed for his appearing (2 Timothy 4:8).
