Unshakeable Kingdom – 21 Days in the Word

Day 13 – The Unshakeable Kingdom

(Hebrews 12:26-29)

Events that shook the world

In the last fourteen years, the world has witnessed two major events that affected everyone. First was the 2007 financial crisis which saw the collapse of the global financial systems. This saw the crumbling of trusted financial fortresses; the tremors shook every domain of society and the waves splashed on the shores of the years that followed.

The second of these events is the corona virus pandemic of 2020 which started like a volcanic eruption in China but spread rapidly throughout the whole world. In my lifetime, I have never seen whole towns, cities and nations stopped.

The corona virus pandemic stopped the whole world for over a year, with catastrophic consequences on the social, economic, mental, spiritual and the physical life of the whole world.

There will be more shaking

These events underline the futility of earthly confidence. There is nothing in this world that cannot be shaken. The world itself will eventually crumble. There will be more shaking, sifting, and burning in the world systems in the years to come.

No technological development or advancement can grant security to the shakings when they come as we have seen in our recent history. This is because the kingdoms of this world and its systems are transient and subject to change. Therefore, confidence in them will always result in painful disappointments.

God’s kingdom is unshakeable

The Bible reading today reminds us that while the kingdoms and systems of the world are subject to change and shakings, God’s kingdom cannot be shaken. God’s kingdom rules overall and it will always stand firm despite the shakings in the world.

Our future is therefore built on a solid foundation that cannot be destroyed. Though we live in this world that is subject to change, our faith is in God. He sustains us through the changes and keeps us stable through the uncertainties of life.

Being a Christian does not give us immunity over the shakings in this world, but it keeps us stable through them. This is the reason Jesus Christ called on us  to build our lives on solid foundations – on the Rock, Christ himself (Matthew 7:24-25).

The right way to build on Christ and his unshakeable kingdom is to hear, read and receive the word of God and do it daily.

“… We look not to the things that are seen but to the things that are unseen. For the things that are seen are transient, but the things that are unseen are eternal
